The reggae world mourns the passing of the beloved Reggae icon and one-fifth of the band Morgan Heritage, Peetah Morgan, whose powerful and soulful melodies touched an international audience.

With his untimely passing on February 25 2024 as the result of a stroke at the age of 46, the Reggae industry has lost a remarkable voice which resounded across many generations. He leaves behind two children, Destiny and Journey Morgan.

Peetah Morgan, born Peter Anthony Morgan in 1977 known for his soul-touching vocals and writing profound lyrics, was a cornerstone of the reggae community.

As a member of the Grammy award winning group Morgan Heritage, alongside four of his siblings Una Morgan, Nakhamyah "Lukes" Morgan and Memmalatel "Mr. Mojo" Morgan, he played a pivotal role in shaping the reggae landscape.

They took inspiration from the greats such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and their own father Denroy Morgan, who was part of Reggae band, Black Eagles. Many of Heritage’s songs became instant classics, as he championed messages of love, unity, and social justice through his music. Songs such “Down by the River” and “Reggae Bring Back Love” became staples at weddings, funerals and parties throughout the Jamaican diaspora and beyond.

The impact of Peetah Morgan's passing reverberates throughout the wider reggae community, as fellow artists and fans come together to celebrate his life and legacy. Tributes poured in from the artist’s bandmate and brother, Gramps Morgan, UB40, and his many fans from all corners of the globe, highlighting the profound influence he had on both the music and the many lives that he touched.

For many, Peetah Morgan was more than just a musician. He was a friend, father and a source of inspiration. His authenticity and humility endeared him to fans and colleagues alike, leaving a permanent mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. As the reggae community grapples with this shocking loss, fans question the future of the band Morgan Heritage, as there are two remaining members.

There is a collective determination to honour Peetah Morgan's memory by continuing to spread his message of love and unity through music. Fans continue to play Morgan Heritage’s classics, ensuring that his spirit lives on in every note and every lyric that he sang.

In the wake of Peetah Morgan's passing, the reggae community finds solace in coming together to celebrate his life and contributions. His funeral was held and live streamed on March 7, to a turnout which truly trkected how cherished he was in life, and in the afterlife, his presence will endure, serving as a reminder of the enduring power of Reggae to unite, uplift, and inspire.
